Confidential Knit Design Service Our company has specialized in developing original fabrics for private label programs since 1988. Many of our fabrics are still in use at name brand companies and knitting mills all over the globe.

Fabdesigns, Inc. continues to create proprietary knit designs confidentially for many prominent companies. All work is confidential and is never shared with any other clients. We provide services in several phases based on budget and client needs.

  • • Typical fees for our design and consulting services start at a competitive hourly rate; Original jacquard fabric designs start are reasonably priced - similar to original print design fees; Stoll programs strart at $350.00; and swatching fees are also by a reasonable hourly rate plus whatever your yarn costs - cotton to cashmere and anything in between, program cost can be added only if needed, and there's a nominal machine set up fee.
  • We have special rates for day, week, monthly retainer and special projects. Every project and client is different so call us for personalized attention. So pleae call us with any questions.

We are completely vertical, own all our own equipment which is state of the art technology and stock a selection of some of the finest rayon yarns available. All our fabrics are original. So, there is no danger of any client's product being "leaked" beyond our walls. Most of our fabrics are created with a planned degree of difficulty, making them extremely difficult to copy or 'knock off".

Fabdesigns specializes in developing unique fabrics for known brands, Resorts, Country clubs and Luxury market clients whose discerning customers want high quality clothing available no where else. For those wanting swatches and knit programs - we have expert in house technical STOLL CMS service and programming.
We save you money and time because you only have to hire our expertise for exactly what you want, precisely when you need us, rather than keeping such a highly specialized head count year round.  Your in-house staff also gets the benefit of our knowledge and extensive experience.

How it works: We customize your project according to what you need.  We can align a full blown multi-phase project or an a-la cart service arrangement to tweak a small gap in supporting your in-house team’s effort.  We try to work within your company’s development budget and give you a project estimate up front.  We also let you know the cost of any revision work and what’s included so that we all manage expectations, resources and time wisely.  Depending on the size and scope of your needs we usually can arrive on a budget that suits most companies.

Phase 1. Initial meeting-Consultation. We create a design brief with the client that outlines the scope of the project, Manufacturing capabilities / limitations, key milestones, a realistic time line for meeting those goals, we identify which areas the client wishes us to focus on, and what their specific needs truly are. Our first phase of R&D work speaks to the client's desire for conveying a particular "Brand image". We take into consideration the end consumer’s lifestyle, environment, demographics, psychographics;  Our client’s merchandising strategies, specific features of their brand, merchandising characteristics of the store racks, interesting details and other aspects that are distinct to that particular client and customer shopping experience.

We deliver: Design Brief, timeline, project contract/budget estimate (pro-forma invoice).

Phase 2. Initial Research: We create a min-SWAT analysis based on what the client shares with us.  We research the ‘Market’, competitive products, vendor offerings, textile technology trends.  We also research; Design trends, themes, colors, yarns, stitches, jacquard trends, fabrications, etc.

We deliver: The mini-SWAT and supporting data identifying specific design threads. We provide Word Doc and/or Excel format in digital and hard copy.

Phase 3.  The client selects design themes or suggests their own.

We deliver: 1 visual mood /story board per theme and 10 thumbnail pencil sketches of suggested designs per theme. We provide JPG and/or PDF format in digital and hard copy.

Phase 4. The client selects up to 3 pieces from the thumbnail sketches to be worked up and stylized into color representations.

We deliver: Either Inked and colorized ideation drawings or colorized flat sketches to 1/8 scale – Analog or Photoshop. We provide JPG and/or PDF format in digital and hard copy.

Phase 5. Client chooses which designs are then moved into digital fabric jacquards.

We deliver: JPG, Tiff, or PSD renderings in layers. If the client has a stitch count from their factory the digital fabric can be rendered according to the mill requirements.  We create the digital jacquards based on body placement, manufacturing equipment, client’s supplied cutting pattern and stitch counts, any hardware.  Jacquards can be emailed via SIRIX-mail to other Stoll mills around the world. Photoshop work can be emailed or burned onto a disk for client's PC or MAC.
